Most material calculators give you a number and nothing else. Every page here shows the formula, a worked example and the assumptions behind the result, so you can check the math before you spend money.
The inputs accept feet, inches, metres and centimetres, and the results include both imperial and metric units. Waste allowances are adjustable, because a simple patio and a diagonal tile layout do not need the same margin.
How we estimate
- Dimensions are converted to feet before calculating, then converted back to the units you chose.
- Default waste is 5% for concrete, gravel and mulch, and 10% for paint, tile, drywall and wallpaper. You can change it on every page.
- Bag yields, coverage rates and material densities come from standard manufacturer figures. Always confirm with the product label.
- Estimates are planning tools, not a substitute for local building codes or a licensed contractor.
